aaaaa We have been asked by president Hargis to set a performance goal for our grantsmanship activities for next year (FY10).In addition, we have been asked to indicate the strategies which we intend to use to reach our goal.In FY08 our actual expenditures in sponsored research were $9,434,694 and the FY09 that number was $9,626,452.That’s a 2% increase between FY08 and FY09.
iaaa What do you think is a reasonable goal for FY10?1%?2%? 3%?More?Please send me your thoughts via e-mail. Also, let me know what strategies you think we should invoke to reach the new goal.For instance, we might implement a mentoring program whereby new faculty are included in grant activities with experienced grant-getters as they submit new applications.I’d like to hear what you have in mind for reasonable strategies.Once again, please e-mail me your ideas.

Let's Work Together to Make the Wiki Helpful and Beneficial
The research unit team is interested in your feedback about the utility of the wiki site.If there are things that you think would improve the site.Let us know.
Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Tools helps professors, graduate students, and researchers publish their manuscripts and it is available from the wiki site.We would like to know if this is a functional tool for our faculty.If it is not, then we will stop providing this service.Please, let us know your preference.
To the Attention of PIs and Potential PIs
aaiia All of our PIs and potential PIs need to be aware of the Critical Path which we use for the grant submission process (see below).
1.PROPOSAL INTEREST DECLARED 2.INITIAL MEETING
3.PREPARE BUDGET TEMPLATE
4.PREPARE AND ROUTE FINAL BUDGET 5.CHECKING AND PROOFREADING REQUIRED DOCUMENTS 6.FINAL REVIEW 7.SUBMIT APPLICATION
aaiia Each of these steps has a soft deadline associated with it.These deadlines help us avoid the chaos which comes from trying to do too much work with too little time in the hours before an application is to be submitted.Our staff will establish all of the tasks and deadlines at the Initial Meeting at the beginning of this process.This process begins after a faculty member submits a letter of intent or determines interest in submitting a proposal. We hope that this process will allow us to serve our PIs better.
Collaborating with Graduate Students
aaiia The Graduate College is now accepting applications for the Annual Graduate Student Research Symposium held each spring semester. 2010 Symposium will be held February 17th, 18th, and 19th. Proposal submission for poster and paper presentations deadline is Sunday, December 20, 2009. Please, encourage your graduate students to submit papers/abstracts to this great annual event.
